Love, Miss A
If you were in my class this year, you know that I was on the hunt for the perfect pup! Well, 3 days after we were done with school I went to just go look at some puppies and ended up coming home with Kyle! He is such a cutie! He loves to cuddle, watch T.V. (i'm serious he watches it), eat carpet and chase ice cubes on the floor. I'm very happy to have him and I'm sure if you stop by my room I will have some puppy stories for you! Hope you all are having a great summer!!

At the beginning of the year I found that many of my students would use our classroom sharpener to escape the work that waited for them at their desks. I made the decision to completely remove our old pencil sharpener due to the constant grinding noise and the fact that my students were more worried about the point of their pencil than their work.
Now, towards the end of the year I am finding that having a sharpener would be nice, but where can I find the PERFECT sharpener?! Well, after much searching and Pinterest browsing I have found a sharpener through Classroom Friendly Supplies. This would be a great sharpener for our classroom! No more constant grinding and I can move it at any point in time! Be sure to go check out their website and enter in their giveaway! Good luck! This week will be a typical week in our classroom. We will have all of our Friday tests and we will be publishing our own class book this week!. For reading we will be moving on to new "magazine" readers that will be staying at school due to the limited amount of readers.
Recently, we have run into a few hiccups with the turning in of homework. We now have a Homework Fish jar, where the class can earn one fish every time EVERYONE has their homework completed and in on time. So far we have earned 2 fish! Our goal is to get to 12 to earn a special treat! I know the end of the year is coming and the weather is getting nice, but please make sure your child is getting their work done at home. It will make the end of the year go smoother for all of us! Please let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for stopping by! Miss A This week we will be taking our NeSA Reading Test. I am very excited to see how our kiddos do! This is their chance to show everyone exactly what they have learned! With that in mind, I will be doing my best to eliminate the amount of homework at home, to ensure that our students are getting enough rest and are at their peak when they arrive in the morning. If you pop over to our Games page you will find a link to a few games that will help Prep our students in a fun way! We are also coming up to the day where we will begin drafting our very own class book! Be sure to return all order forms even if you are not ordering. We ask this that way I know you saw the paper and were aware of what we were doing. It's a short busy week with a lot of hard work involved, but I know we can do it! Thank you for all of your support! Have a great week and thanks for stopping by! Miss A I have some very exciting news! This week we started creating our very own class book and our work will come back to us as a published book! Some of you may be familiar with this project, but if you are not simply visit StudentTreasures to find out more information. Our class book will be titled, "How to Survive in Miss Anderson's Fourth Grade Class". Each student will be writing a short essay to explain what it takes to survive in our classroom and let me tell you they all have some GREAT ideas! Please be looking for the order packet to come home so you can pre-order your child's book! By no means are you expected to order a book, it is simply the opportunity to order one if you choose to do so. If you choose to do so, however, you want to wait until later to order because the price will go up, so be sure to place your order now! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Thanks!! Miss A Well....all of our testing will be taking place in these last few months of school. It is time for us to put all of our hard work to the test (literally!).
I will try to reduce the amount of homework during testing periods to ensure that every student will be getting enough rest to give them the opportunity to perform their very best! In the next few months we will be reviewing Fractions, multiplication, division expressions and much more! This week will be a short week due to Spring Break starting on FRIDAY and we will return to School on Tuesday of next week! Today, we had our writing celebration for our Essay unit! The kids did a great job with their essays and most will be bringing them home to share with you tonight. We also started thinking of ideas for our own classroom book. We will be working on making individual pages on "How to survive Miss Anderson's 4th grade class". I have a goal to complete a book each year as a way to remember each of my classes. This will be worked on independently during the kids Daily 5 time. You may also find them writing at home! Feel free to check it out! In the next couple weeks I will be sending home order forms so you have a chance to make a memory as well. Please do not feel obligated to buy a book! If you have any questions please let me know! Have a great week and Break! Here is what will be happening this week in our classroom....
Reading- we will have a comprehension test on Friday (if the weather cooperates). If we do not have school we will be taking the comprehension and spelling tests on Monday of next week. I will be sending the study questions home on Wednesday. Math- We will begin working with Temperature, Grids and Fractions for the next couple of days. This is a short chapter so it will fly by! Try to challenge yourselves to apply your math skills outside of the classroom! I would love to hear your stories of you applying your knowledge outside of school! Writing- we are still working on Essays in the next couple of days we will be looking to narrow our ideas down to 1 topic to create a thesis on. It's so very exciting!! Social Studies- Be sure you continue to study your States and Capitals...you never know when there will be a Pop Quiz!!! We are working on studying the SW region of the U.S. and are learning where many of their customs and beliefs were derived from. fun news!! Our DonorsChoose project was funded...so we will be recieving our classroom furniture this Friday (weather permitting). It is very exciting to find support in our community! Hope you have a great week! This week is a short week due to Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday and Thursday. I look forward to be meeting with all of you! There has been a lot of progress made by our students and I am excited to share. Please bring any concerns, questions or topics you may want to discuss when we meet!
I have also invited each student to come in and sit with us during our conference. For the past couple of quarters we have discussed growing up and how when you are older you will be held accountable for different things in life. I have invited them in to take part in the discussion of their grades. This is to be a calm discussion that will provide our kiddos with the opportunity to share their thoughts of their grades and accomplishments with you. There is a Valentines Day note going home today with your child. In that letter there is an explanation of what will be happening on Valentines day in our classroom Here is what our week will look like! Reading- We will NOT have a spelling or reading test due to the short week. Our story will carry into next week which means they have extra time to study those vocabulary words for next Friday's test! We are reading the story of Sacajawea and her impact on Lewis and Clark's explorations. Math- We are still working on the basics of geometry. We have found that much of the vocabulary can be quite a mouth full. You will also notice that there will not be as much homework coming home. I have been providing students with more in-class work time to help provide them with my support when questions or confusion arises and hopefully reducing the stress of "math homework" at home. Writing- We have moved on to the unit of Essays! We are all very excited to be moving on to a new genre of writing. Essays will focus on tiny moments in our life and expressing our opinions about them rather than a descriptive story. I have a feeling we will have no problem expressing our opinions in our writing :) . Social Studies- We took a short break away from our books to explore the 50 states and their Capitals. This week we will get back into the book, but don't forget to continue to study and memorize those States, Capitals and continents. At the end of the year we will have to show how well we can name all of them! I hope you all have a great week! Let me know if you have any questions or comments below! Here is what will be happening in our classroom this week!
Reading- We are making some minor changes to our reading workshop time. There will be new groups, new notebooks and new skills we will be working towards. On Friday we will have a COMPREHENSION test over our story, "Harvesting Hope". I will be sending study questions home by Tuesday. Please make sure you work on these questions with your Reading book throughout the week! Math- Our Chapter 17 Test over basic Geometry will be on Wednesday. On Tuesday we will be reviewing in the classroom. There will be NO HOMEWORK in math on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the Writing Assessment. I am hoping that this will help our students put out their best work for the Writing Assessment. Writing- Tuesday and Wednesday mornings we will be taking our NeSA-Writing Assessment. We are all nervous and excited to get our writing out there. Please make sure you are getting your rest and relaxing. Remember to visualize what you will do during your 40 minutes of writing time! Spelling- We had 14 students get 100% or higher on their spelling tests from last week! I am hoping that this week I will have all 16 students with a 100% or higher! So study, study, study!! REMEMBER!- Parent/Teacher Conferences will be next week. If you have not sent back your blue form please send me an email and I can get you a new form or just send your time slot to you by email. I hope you have an awesome week! Good Luck on your NeSA-Writing!! Yours |
