This week is a short week due to Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday and Thursday. I look forward to be meeting with all of you! There has been a lot of progress made by our students and I am excited to share. Please bring any concerns, questions or topics you may want to discuss when we meet!
I have also invited each student to come in and sit with us during our conference. For the past couple of quarters we have discussed growing up and how when you are older you will be held accountable for different things in life. I have invited them in to take part in the discussion of their grades. This is to be a calm discussion that will provide our kiddos with the opportunity to share their thoughts of their grades and accomplishments with you.
There is a Valentines Day note going home today with your child. In that letter there is an explanation of what will be happening on Valentines day in our classroom
Here is what our week will look like!
Reading- We will NOT have a spelling or reading test due to the short week. Our story will carry into next week which means they have extra time to study those vocabulary words for next Friday's test!
We are reading the story of Sacajawea and her impact on Lewis and Clark's explorations.
Math- We are still working on the basics of geometry. We have found that much of the vocabulary can be quite a mouth full. You will also notice that there will not be as much homework coming home. I have been providing students with more in-class work time to help provide them with my support when questions or confusion arises and hopefully reducing the stress of "math homework" at home.
Writing- We have moved on to the unit of Essays! We are all very excited to be moving on to a new genre of writing. Essays will focus on tiny moments in our life and expressing our opinions about them rather than a descriptive story. I have a feeling we will have no problem expressing our opinions in our writing :) .
Social Studies- We took a short break away from our books to explore the 50 states and their Capitals. This week we will get back into the book, but don't forget to continue to study and memorize those States, Capitals and continents. At the end of the year we will have to show how well we can name all of them!
I hope you all have a great week! Let me know if you have any questions or comments below!
